This blog has a real simple premise: One car moving across America.
A short time ago my father, Randy (you'll get to know him real well), decided that a road trip from Seattle, WA to Washington, DC was in order. I'm not going to get into the political motivations for that at this point, I'm sure it will come up later.
The trip is two weeks long starting August 21st, 2010 and is broken up into two legs. Going to DC and coming back to Seattle. For the trip to DC pops is going to be joined by my lovely and amazingly talented sister Rebecca. Once they reach DC I'll be flying over to meet up for a couple days of carnage in the capitol. As we head out of DC we'll also be leaving Rebecca at an airport (doesn't matter which one) and then it's just Dad and I back to Seattle. Each route will be different in an effort to cover as much ground as possible.
Here's a rough idea of the route, the northern being the first leg and southern the second (you might have to zoom out at first to see the whole map):

Nothing about this map is set in stone and as I've found during past road trips there is certain to be changes along the way.
That being said some of the highlights are sure to be:
Yellowstone National Park
Mt Rushmore
Chicago, IL
Washington, DC
Rocky Mountain National Park
Utah (There's a bunch of things I want to see there)
One of the things that Dad wants to do along this trip is visit various "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". So you can all look forward to many food reviews. In the same vein I'm going to try to eat as much local food as possible to get a better idea of what people are eating across America (and I don't mean McDonald's).
Well that's the gist of it. See ya in August.
