Why Washington DC in late August?

Given the horribly hot weather that time of year and my well known hatred of heat and humidity you must all think I’ve lost my mind! Well that is certainly part of the answer to why a 6,000 mille road trip in August. The rest of the answer starts while I was reading a book (fiction) late last year. I found the best definition of happiness I’ve ever read.

Happiness:

1. Somebody to Love.

2. Something to do.

3. Something to look forward to.

Somebody to Love. This one I’ve been greatly blessed. My beautiful wife Sharon, my delightful (and crazy) kids, Rebecca, Adam and Jeremy. My mother and Sister Rhonda and her family. All the members of my family and some really great friends fill my life with great joy.

Something to do. I love what I do. Designing and drafting houses have been a delight and a challenge for over 35 years. I still enjoy walking through a house that at one point was no more than a thought of mine. As I get older work has become more about making money and then the experiences that money can create.

Something to look forward to. Here is where the idea of this trip began. At that point I had just finished the worst year in business and was sorely lacking in vision. When heard that Glenn Beck was arranging a rally for August 28th I knew I had to be there. I’ve never been in crowd larger than 70k or so and decided that before I can’t I should!

Knowing that Sharon couldn’t get that much time off from work and that she wouldn’t enjoy that much sitting I asked Rebecca and Adam if they would like to join me. Neither could get the full two weeks off work so I proposed they each join me for half of the journey. Rebecca and I will be leaving August 21st. Adam is flying in early the morning of the rally (Saturday August 28th) and Rebecca will be catching a flight out August 29th.

The itinerary is almost all theirs except the rally. Along the way we are going to see how many Diners, Drive Ins and Dives we can hit and when we can’t locate one I hope we are able to discover some of our own. I have no doubt it will be a fantastic adventure. I hope you will be able to keep up with us as we hit the road.

Ready to roll out
